Our 12-month warranty
Every device we sell comes with a 12-month hardware warranty, covering manufacturer and hardware faults. It applies at every grade: Fair is covered exactly the same as Premium.
An 18-month extended warranty is available for an additional cost. Ask us before you buy if you want it.
What’s covered
Section titled “What’s covered”All hardware components. If a component fails, we will repair the product at no charge (using new or refurbished replacement parts), or offer an exchange or refund. See Making a warranty claim for the order in which those are applied.
What’s not covered
Section titled “What’s not covered”Software. Operating systems, applications, crashes, data recovery and licence transfers all fall outside the warranty.
Battery capacity loss. A natural decrease in battery capacity over time is expected and isn’t covered. A battery that fails outright is a hardware fault; a battery that simply holds less charge than it did when new is wear. See Laptop battery life.
Cosmetic damage, and wear consistent with the grade you bought.
Misuse and accidents: drops, spills, unauthorised repairs, and environmental damage such as water or extreme temperatures.
Your data. UN Tech is not responsible for any loss of personal files, photos, documents or other data. This one matters more than people expect; see below.
Back up your data
Section titled “Back up your data”A warranty covers the hardware, not what’s on it. A repair may involve replacing or reimaging the drive, and anything on it can be lost. We’re explicit that data loss isn’t our responsibility, so the backup is genuinely on you.
Back up before sending a machine in. If the machine won’t start and there’s data on it you need, say so before you send it. Don’t assume we’ll know it matters.
Your rights under Australian Consumer Law
Section titled “Your rights under Australian Consumer Law”This warranty sits on top of your rights under Australian Consumer Law. It doesn’t replace or limit them.
Under the ACL, goods must be of acceptable quality, match their description and be fit for purpose. Those guarantees apply to refurbished goods, taking into account that they’re second-hand and the price paid. There’s no set time limit on them: they last for a reasonable period given the cost and quality of the product, which can be longer than the 12-month warranty.
If a failure is major, you’re entitled to a refund or replacement, and the choice between them is yours.
If you think you’re in that territory, talk to us; we’d rather sort it out directly.
Making a claim
Section titled “Making a claim”See Making a warranty claim. A genuine warranty repair costs you nothing.
